Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2026
Overview

Cypher is a Chrome extension that helps you write better prompts for AI platforms including ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what we do not do with it.

What we collect

Cypher collects minimal data to operate:

  • The text of prompts you submit for optimization — this is sent to our backend server to generate improved versions and is not stored after processing
  • Your Stripe Customer ID when you subscribe to Cypher Pro — this is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API and on our server solely to verify your subscription status
  • Your daily usage count — stored locally in your browser to enforce the free tier limit and is never transmitted to our servers
What we do not collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit:

  • Your name, email address, or any personal identifying information
  • Your browsing history or activity on any website
  • The content of your conversations with any AI platform
  • Any payment information — all payments are processed securely by Stripe
  • Device identifiers, IP addresses, or location data
How your prompts are processed

When you use Cypher to optimize a prompt, the text of your prompt is transmitted securely to our backend for processing. Your prompt is used solely to generate optimized suggestions and is not logged, stored, sold, or used for any purpose beyond fulfilling your request. Once your suggestions are returned, the data is discarded.

Third party services

Cypher uses the following third party services to operate:

  • Stripe — for payment processing. Stripe's privacy policy governs how your payment data is handled. We never see or store your card details.
  • Railway — for hosting our backend server. No user data is stored on Railway beyond active server memory.
Data storage and security

All data stored by Cypher lives in your browser's local Chrome storage. This means your data stays on your device and is not accessible to us. Your Stripe Customer ID is the only piece of information we verify with our server, and only to confirm your subscription is active.

Our backend server runs over HTTPS and does not persist any prompt data to a database.

Your rights

Since we do not store personal data on our servers, there is nothing to request deletion of beyond your Stripe subscription record. You can cancel your Cypher Pro subscription at any time through Stripe. To remove all locally stored data, you can uninstall the extension or clear the extension's storage from Chrome's settings.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of Cypher after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
